Because of its relationship with content strategy, visual design, technology, and stakeholder influence, IA tends to be an iterative and ongoing process. We start doing IA workshops and tests early (with stakeholders, users, or both) to establish a basic vocabulary and content structure. Opportunities to test and revise IA are added later to accommodate new content requests, usability test findings, technical/implementation challenges and other unpredictable factors.
