A warm welcome to Broward College

The story of the acquisition of our latest client can best be described as ‘serendipitous.’

While I’d like to take credit for the execution of a well-oiled sales strategy I simply can’t. The purchase order I received yesterday for an exciting web project with Broward College is the result of producing great work and a lot of luck.

Located in Fort Lauderdale, Broward College has the third-largest enrollment in the Florida College System (67,000 students) and is ranked in the top 10 percent of community colleges in the U.S. by Washington, D.C.-based Aspen Institute.

Our relationship with Broward started when I received a text while on holidays. The message let me know that we’d received a call at the office from a school in Florida who seemed very interested in working with us.

I set-up a second call for the next day and learned more about Broward College while standing outside a yet-to-open cafe in Bayfield, Ontario. Under a tree. In the rain.

As it turns out, a VP at Broward had been shown a virtual orientation project we completed for Centennial College a number of years ago (hey, Flash was cool then). The VP was impressed and called Centennial to ask who produced the project and if they enjoyed working with them. With a positive reference and contact information, Broward reached out and started the conversation.

A few short months down the road and we’re moving forward with our first major US project for the largest school we’ve ever worked with. The real learning for me here is this:

Do great work and leave a good impression. It’s really as simple as that.
